Our week began with Uncle Daniel (to Emily. Daniel or Dude to me) visiting. Emily is infatuated and she loves Uncle Dan's tickles. Apparently, he gives the best tickles judging from the giggling. He is also the only person she will let brush her teeth for more than a second. She has made no attempts to cover up her soft spot for him.
We were very sad to see him go... even though he's only at Auntie Nese down the road.
Bathtime is becoming longer and longer. She is such a water baby and loves sitting there inspecting (read: poking) her bath toys and leafing through her bath books (yes, the walrus is still pretty). She's even letting me give her cuddles after her bath now... but only if I leave her in the bath long enough. Otherwise, I am shown firm disapproval.
I am loving it.
Last weekend we also got very excited planning Emily's first birthday party! Christmas and New Year are always a whirlwind and once they are over, believe it or not, we are looking at a matter of weeks before Emily turns 1.
How exactly this happened, I'm still not sure. There is no way it's been a year since I held that tiny (3kg) baby in my arms for the first time?!
But alas - somehow - it has happened. Time flies and all that.
But I digress. Party planning. Here is Emily testing her party venue.
[Mummy is already racking her brain trying to work out how she is going to get around the horrible mustard lighting when she's trying to take photos.]
But Emily seemed happy with the toys and entertainment on offer, so we booked the party.
Did I mention? VERY excited.
On Monday, I introduced Emily to the washing machine. I've heard so much about how I loved the washing machine as a child. "Yound n yound", it was called. Complete with hand motions.
Emily was unphased. Her face says it all really.
[Mummy, why so ridiculously excited about something so common?
Well, fine then!]
There was the week-long attempt to be let loose on the pressies under the tree (oh the carnage tomorrow!): If you haven't already seen it, this will explain: Clicky!
And look! Woo! She has more or less figured out the knees!
If you're still wondering what the "Eye Scratching" part of the post title is about, best read this first: Clicky!
Lethal fingers, I tell you!
Still, it's very hard to hold a grudge against a baby! (not that I tried to!) She was amazing that day. Sure, she played up loads, but it was very obvious that she was worried. She knew something was wrong - I had to keep putting her down and holding my hands against my eye in pain! So she threw tantrums and hit me purposely and was generally a PIA. But it was also obvious that it was for attention, so there were many, many cuddles that day.
And then when my sister picked her up, she was amazing and perfectly well-behaved. She didn't cry as I expected her to (just goes to show how comfortable she now is in my sister's care, which I love!). I almost did though (cry) every time my sister sent me a little picture update as I sat in A&E looking like a tramp.
There she is eating dinner in Gabriella's high chair. Denise was very impressed by what a good eater she is (which was news to me as these last 2 weeks have been insanely difficult, but since that day, she's been a different child!)
Speaking of a different child, she may have been well-behaved at Denise's but the next day, if I dared step away from her for ONE SECOND, all hell broke loose. We are talking breathless crying, weeping, the works. She clung to me every time I picked her up, like her life depended on it. My heart hurts a little bit remembering it now, it was so obvious how much attention and care she needed from me that day to make up for the previous. Such delicate and sensitive little beings. So perfect.
Feel like watching a little video? She loves playing peekaboo with me in her cot while I put away her clothes. Listen to her adorable sound effects :)
I love hanging out with her, she is just such excellent company.
Here she is being so good when we went out to my favourite cafe on Thursday...
As I mentioned earlier, "pretty" is still her most used word. However, there seems to be a few new words added to the mix.
"Happy" and "Milk"
I won't add them to her up-and-coming Vocab list yet as she hasn't quite used them enough to have me convinced as yet but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Along with "baby" which there have also been hints of. (And on one occasion even two words strung together when she looked at herself in the mirror: "baby pretty"...!)
Daddy's off work for the holidays now and Emily is très excited! They get to play more "sack of potatoes"! :)
:)
That's all from us this week! I know we've just begun, but we'll we taking a little bloggy break over Christmas and the New Year. Rest assured though that you'll hear all about our Christmas anyway, just a little late! Until then, the very best to you all. May your Christmas be everything you want it to be, and 2012 start with a smile, and lots of love xoxo
There'll be more in the next post... I had to put the 07/01/11 one together quickly so it wasn't as full as this, but the next one will be good too :) x
